Why does the United States refuse to call for a ceasefire in Gaza? | The Israeli war on Gaza
American political scientist Stephen Walt says that Israel has changed over the years, but Biden’s policy is stuck in the past.
US support for Israel’s war on Gaza makes the country appear ineffective and hypocritical to the rest of the world, according to Stephen Walt, a Harvard professor and co-author of the book The Israel Lobby and American Foreign Policy.
Walt tells host Steve Clemons that Israel and US-Israeli relations have changed over the decades, but US President Joe Biden is sticking to his view of Israel that was formed in the West in the 1970s.
Walt says that the United States, by rejecting a ceasefire, appears to be “encouraging conflict” rather than being a peacemaker, especially since Israel has no political strategy to resolve the Palestinian issue.
