In northwestern Syria, some earthquake debris has disappeared, but a void remains Türkiye and Syria earthquake
Northwestern Syria The massive earthquakes that destroyed vast areas of northwestern Syria and southern Turkey last year left their mark on the areas they struck.
Northwestern Syria, in particular, has suffered a lot, being the last rebel-controlled stronghold in Syria and already isolated even before the natural disaster made everything much worse.
At the time, Al Jazeera was on the ground, speaking to survivors and reporting on the efforts of rescuers to save what lives they could from under the rubble.
A year later, Al Jazeera returned to talk to three people we met last year, to see how their lives have changed since that important day.
