Auger-Aliassime overcomes the French opponent for the second time in a row to reach the semi-finals of Montpellier

Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime qualified for the semi-finals of the Southern French Open tennis tournament with a convincing 7-5, 6-1 victory over Frenchman Harold Mayotte on Friday.

After coming off second on serve in his hard-fought second-round win over rising Frenchman Arthur Cazeau on Thursday, the third seed from Montreal appeared to be back to his old self against Mayotte.

Auger-Aliassime hit 10 aces, committed only two double faults, and won 65 percent of his service points in a match that lasted 79 minutes.

He also faced only two break points. While he didn’t defend either, Mayotte broke five times from six chances.

Third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime of Montreal defeated Frenchman Harold Mayotte 7-5, 6-1 to reach the semifinals of the Southern French Open in Montpellier.

Auger-Aliassime, ranked 30th in the world, will face second seed Alexander Bublik in the next round.

The 23-year-old Canadian has a 2-1 career record against the Kazakhstan native, including a win in 2022 en route to his fourth title of 2022 in Basel, Switzerland.
